Why hiring a Personal Trainer is the best thing you could do, to help you achieve success with your exercise and well-being goals!
Jan 26, 2021The gym and fitness world can be a mine field. We are constantly bombarded by the best way to achieve glutes of steel, shredded abs, perfecting marathon prep, cardio or weights for fat loss?? The list goes on…
The internet is a wealth of information and a fantastic resource, however, if you are new to working out, it can be tricky to know which advice to take. The answer truthfully, is there is no one size fits all, cookie cutter approach to success with health. We are all built differently, come in all shapes and sizes, with a huge range of genetics, metabolisms, likes and dislikes etc, subsequently there is no one method which is perfect for everyone!
So, how can a PT help you navigate your way to feeling and looking your best…?
It’s educational…
Learning what do do, why you should be doing it and how to do it perfectly for your body is a great platform for success. If you understand the why, you will find it much easier to execute. Learning about exercise, is an investment of time you will only ever have to make once and it will be worth it’s weight in gold! You can take what your learn from your pt forward into every facet of your training to maximise results into the future.
Flag up any problems you have with your posture/ form…
If you don’t know what is wrong, you can’t correct it. There are also some pretty awful examples of exercises on display in most gyms!
There is no such thing as perfect posture, just “your posture”, which will be specific to you. However, if you are not sure which areas need more attention, it is very challenging to make your workout specific and helpful. Your PT should help you identify areas of concern and implement a plan to improve them and ensure you are performing the exercises appropriately, to maximise effectiveness and keep you safe, limiting your risk of hurting yourself when you are working out.
Set goals and keep you accountable…
If you are not sure what you want to achieve, you are on a one way ticket to disappointment. Not achieving results in the gym is the main reason people stop going and quit. A great PT will work with you to find out exactly what you want to achieve and give you the inspiration, education and tools with which to achieve it. They will also keep you on track and accountable, should your enthusiasm start to waver or your diet goes a little off track!
Inspire and motivate you to train with focus and intention…
Intensity drives results in whichever endeavour in life you choose to pursue. If you attack your goals with the right attitude, you can achieve whatever you put your mind to. Your Personal Trainer will inspire you to charge ahead and attack your targets with intensity, enthusiasm and commitment.
Make it fun…
I see lots of unhappy, pained faces in the gym plodding along on the x trainer or grinding out a spin class. We all enjoy different types of exercise, so choosing to partake it a style of exercise you dislike, will absolutely not enrich your life! Pilates, Yoga, Strength Training, HIIT training, Swimming, Fencing.. (you get the picture..) there is a style of exercise for everyone and not every PT is for everyone, so choose wisely. If your idea of hell is burpees before breakfast, the coach who loves that style of exercise just isn’t for you, on the flip side, if you want to sweat it out and leave the gym crawling, you guys will probably just get along great! You may need to try a few out before you find your perfect gym match. If your PT makes it fun, you will feel so much better for the workout.
It’s Personal…
The mark of an excellent PT, is someone who takes the trouble to get to know you, what you want to get out of exercise and understand the subtext of what you don’t say! Who intuitively understands that some days, you may have other things going on, work/ family/ health which occupies the majority of your mind. Adapting a session to suit your mood when you feel knackered, stressed, or vice versa, full of energy and motivation, so that you leave your workout feeling positive, happy and pleased you did it is one of the best perks of working with a PT.
